Bangalore: Manipal Cure and Care Pvt. Ltd (MCC) plans to
set up a so-called wellness chain that will have consulting doctors who
focus on preventive health care.
Somnath Das, chief operating officer, MCC, said the
company plans to hire doctors with four-five years’ experience to advise
customers. “We are not going to operate as a hospital. We are not
treating patients. We will offer health check-ups and advice,
health-care products and beauty treatments under one roof. As health
consultants, we would provide preventive monitoring with a focus on
wellness and not on illness,” said Das.
The company, part of the Manipal Group, which has
interests in education and health care, runs one outlet, branded Cure
and Care, in Ahmedabad. It plans to open the second in Bangalore next
week and, according to Das, it will open seven more across cities such
as Pune, Baroda, and Mumbai by 31 March. Das said the company would
spend around Rs30 crore in this period in setting up stores.
He said the company would charge customers Rs250 for a consultation.
Das said MCC would focus on posture-related problems
resulting in neck or back pain that account for 30% of all orthopaedic
and neurological problems in the country.
MCC will also offer health assessment packages including tests for diabetis, cardiac problems, liver ailments, and HIV/AIDS.
